Alignment The Basics From the start of your golf game you want to stamp the best basics into your alignment stance. The wrong alignment at the tee off or during your drives steals points to say nothing of the frustration of hunting for your ball in the brush or spraying sand in bunker shots. The determine the right alignment from get-go, take a club you are not using and point it at the target goal. Next place the tips of your shoe toes parallel to the club. Each of your toes should be at equivalent inches from the club shaft laying at your feet. That's should be your stance and where your feet should always be. Now that your alignment is correct to the target, you have a guide to work on concentrating on your swing using and coordinating your shoulders, arms, hips and knees. If you ball is winging off to the left, that is an indication you are using your arms too much. Hitting the ball too much to the right is an indication you are motioning your body too much laterally. You'll be programing muscle memory correctly after your stance is nailed. Correcting MisAlignment Ok, you've been playing for a while and you suspect you may be having some problems. Take your normal stance over the ball that you are aiming at the target. Now take your club and place the shaft touching both toes. Step back 10 or 15 feet and run your eye down the shaft line toward your target. If the club is pointing to the right or left of the target you have problems. If you're alignment is off, you've already developed bad habits compensating for misalignment. If you do not develop the basic alignment stance and muscle memory for your drive, you'll never reach your potential. Working on Swing
